Young SuperHeroes

Last week as I was going to a meeting in Alianza, I was greeted by a young woman who is the manager of one of the offices that is on the same floor of the building where our ministry center is located.  In typical Dominican style we exchanged greetings which included asking about the family.   When I asked about her son, she smiled and begin to very enthusiastically tell me how her 5-year-old had not stopped talking about the Bible camp that he attended in Alianza during Easter week.  This was his first time in such an activity and he loved every minute, from the songs to the games to the puppets but most importantly he was impacted by the Bible stories. My heart was ready to bust with joy as she shared with me how her son told her about each and every story in great detail.  My eyes filled with tears as she recounted her son telling her: “Jesus was nailed to a cross for our sins mommy and he came back to life. Jesus loves us and Jesus is my Savior.”

This mom was so impacted by what her son had learned.  She told me that she is very interested in visiting the church in the future.  This is only one of many stories of how God worked in amazing ways during the Super Bible Adventures Camp in Alianza during Holy Week.

IMG_7027Over 80 children enjoyed three activity-filled afternoons in the Academy of Super Heroes (the theme for the 2016 Holy Week Bible Camp).  Through lively songs, choreography, puppets, crafts, games and interactive Bible Stories, they learned about Jesus Christ, the greatest hero of all time.  The children were introduced to Jesus and challenged to be like him in the way they would treat others. As part of their “superhero training,” the children enthusiastically memorized Bible verses, played games where they not only had fun but learned important life lessons, participated in interactive Bible stories where they were a part of the action, made meaningful crafts and most importantly learned of Jesus’ great love for them.

One of the teenagers from AliTeens (Alianza’s youth group) played Jesus each day in the IMG_7346.JPGinteractive Bible stories.  On the day we talked about Jesus entry into Jerusalem, the children were to express a word of praise or love to Jesus, it was so precious to see the little ones hug the teen playing Jesus and say “Jesus is my hero.”    The final day the story was of the crucifixion and resurrection.  Even the older kids were filled with joy and awe as Jesus came out of the tomb leaving their sins behind and offering them a new heart.    They understood that He is the only superhero who rose from the dead and could truly save them from their sins.

IMG_7078God did amazing things during those three very full but very rewarding days.  Over 30 volunteers from Alianza, ages 11 to 60 plus, worked very hard but with great joy and unity to make the camp a tremendous experience for all the children who attended.

Of these 82 children, the majority are not yet part of Alianza.   It is also interesting to note that there were over 10 different nationalities represented among the parents of these young superheroes.   Through these children the message of Jesus, the greatest superhero of all times, is touching people from different nations.IMG_7717

We are excited to see how God is going to continue to work through these children.  Some new families have already started to visit Alianza and others have expressed interest.  This past Sunday we began an expanded children’s program called Discovery Land, an amazing program from the C&MA church in Appleton, Wisconsin.  Today I spoke with a mom whose children participated in the Bible camp and yesterday for the first time attended a Sunday service.  This family attended because of the Discovery Land program.  The mom said “They love it and want us to return every Sunday.”  These little ones are truly superheroes spreading the gospel of Christ to their parents and friends.   Please continue to pray that God will continue to impact IMG_7103families through this event and many will become followers of Jesus.

You too are superheroes.  It is because of your faithful prayers and sacrificial giving that we are able to have events like this Super Bible Adventure Camp.  You were very much a part of this special event.  Thank you so much for your prayers and your giving to the Great Commission Fund, our Work Special and Approved Special funds.   You are helping us share the amazing message of Christ’s great love with the families of Punta Cana.
